What is UGC Full Form and what is UGC

UGC’s full form is the University Grants Commission. UGC is called the University Grants Commission. UGC is a commission that provides grants to all universities in the country. In addition, the University Grants Commission (UGC) also provides affiliation to Colleges.

This is a legal entity that was started in 1956. It was established by the Central Government to maintain the standard of University Education of India. Professor Ved Prakash was a great educationist when he was starting this institute.

The UGC is headquartered in New Delhi. As of today, offices can be located in all major cities including Kolkata, New Delhi and Bangalore.

After independence, the Government of India thought that education should be given maximum importance from primary education to the highest level of education such as Ph.D. degree.

That’s why they wanted to come up with a body that ensures that education in India meets a certain standard. The UGC was originally looking at Aligarh University, Banaras University and Delhi University.

In 1957, almost all universities came under the control of the UGC. It is the only Grants-giving institution in the country. It provides funds and also provides for the coordination and maintenance of universities in India.

UGC plays an important role in the education of the country. It has ensured that a system in higher education follows it.

The UGC also ensures that education in all these top universities is of the same standard so that students passing through these colleges are treated as equal.

The UGC was established in 1945 to oversee the Education System of 3 Central Universities, Aligarh, Banaras, and Delhi and then increased the responsibility of UGC in 1947 and all universities in the country came under the supervision of UGC.

The name of the chairman of UGC is D.P. Singh. UGC’s Head Office is in New Delhi and UGC’s Headquarters is located in cities like Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhopal, and Guwahati.

UGC ensures that all the top universities in the country have the same level of education so that all Passed students from those universities are the same and all university teachers should have the same knowledge to do so.

UGC also operates NET, which is the name of a qualification that is required for a person to teach in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. UGC also conducts National Eligibility Test NET

Professor Teachers are appointed in universities and colleges on the basis of passed. These NET qualification exams are exempt from June 2006 for M.Phil Passed people at the undergraduate level in education and for Ph.D. Passed people at the PG level.

There are sixteen institutes which are fully controlled by the UGC. Some of them are named AICTE, RCI, DCI, etc. The UGC’s decision is final when it comes to education in these institutions.

In 2009, it was proposed that the UGC should be discontinued and the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) should play the role of UGC. However, the UGC is still working.

The UGC includes a number of important objectives such as-

  1. Maintaining standards of research, teaching, and examination in universities is among the important objectives of the UGC.
  2. The promotion of higher education is also among the important objectives of the UGC.
  3. Making rules for maintaining the minimum standard of education in the country is also included in the important objectives of the UGC.
  4. Acting as a link between the central government and higher education institutions is also among the important objectives of the UGC.
  5. Advising the government to improve the education system is also among the important objectives of the UGC.
